My Friggin Pants!

Whose Voice?

"First let me thank you for the chance to say my piece. At some point in the Fall I realized Moseley was the person on campus I thought would do the best job. Never have I run someone I thought wasn't the best for the job. This presented a new dilemma for me. I never intended on bringing everyone else with me. I meant to go alone and still ask for nothing in return; and I'm definitely not applying to FBK. Others followed and for their own reasons, with their own motivations. You'll have to ask them. But I'm supporting Moseley because I was going to vote for him anyways. He did a great job as treasurer, and let's be honest, I have a weakness for former SG Treasurers running for Prez ;)
Thanks Again." - Tommy Jardon

NINA Updates!

The NINA Interview is finally on paper! Next I gotta type the monster-long interview into an email and off it goes for Edit 1. Next I have to compile names, sne a few warning emails for the two or three mentioned not-so-warmly but who are huge friends of the blog (sorry no censorship), and then I review Nina's notes on my draft and take in her notes and/or suggestions (I've decided to pull about 15min. out of the no-holds-barred interview but Nina may want it in, etc). Once I revise the interview with both our notes I send the almost-finished (Edit 2) product back to Nina. If she approves it, up it goes. Expect your dose of NINA by late Saturday or sometime Sunday.

Bravo Tommy Jardon.

It takes a strong person to stand up for what he believes in, especially in the face of being called a sellout.

Now if only some of the Pants crowd would stand up and run a serious party. A party where you honestly believe you have the best candidate.

As it stands right now Pants is a party run out of fear the other guy wouldn't slate you. Maybe they wouldn't have been slated, maybe they would. This is the beauty behind not promising positions, you don't know beforehand (gasp!). But until they have the courage to support the best candidate or find a better one (Not just the guy who ran a joke party last semester) they'll always just be running in fear.

Fear? You're talking about fear? You -- the person with no name? And let's be clear, I allowed my fmr. guest to clear the air from his end, but he was given the opportunity on a Pro-Pants site. This site remains 110% behind the true GDI Party.

So don't talk about courage until you put a name next to your mouth...foolish Gator Party troll, LOL!

Well, Tommy may be simply following his conscience, but the rest of those indie sell-outs are still tools and posers who got bought off with Senate seats and FBK taps.

Yeah those sellouts!

Well, dear anonymous, if you applaude bravery, courage and all that warm and fuzzy stuff, then why are you hiding behind an anonymous comment??

"A party where you honestly believe you have the best candidate"

I believe we have the best candidates for all of the executive positions. They're qualified with experience and ideas.

"As it stands right now Pants is a party run out of fear the other guy wouldn't slate you."

Care to back that up with any reasoning? If you would have attended any of our meetings (which were all open to the public), you would not be claiming anything near that.

To go even further, I was slated by Swamp and left that camp because of how things were run. To hold a position like senator means nothing if you aren't going to relentlessly advocate for the people you represent and stand up for what's right. Pants lets our candidates do that, and that's why they ran with us.

"But until they have the courage to support the best candidate "

Bruce is the only candidate who I see is willing to bring new ideas to the table and actually get them accomplished, he's the only one who will stand up to anybody on behalf of the common student. If that alone doesn't make him the best candidate, then go ahead and take a look at what he's done with all the other positions he has held.

While we're on the topic of courage, care to attach a name to your posts? I will.

"I believe we have the best candidates for all of the executive positions. They're qualified with experience and ideas."

Are you serious? Really? I'll just use the most outrageous example to make my point.

EJ - Before candidates were announced one of The Radikals favorite picks for an executive position as an INDIE!, IRHA president, IRHA treasurer, ton of experience from within around and outside of SG and at UF, this list can go on for practically forever if you want...

Elizabeth - One lost senate campaign, College Republican executive director, UF model UN. No experience as far as I can tell from INSIDE SG or any closely related group. What is she a sophomore? I'm sorry she's barely qualified to be a senate candidate at this point.

I'm not trying to say Elizabeth isn't a great person, or a good indie; however, she isn't even QUALIFIED for the position at this point. Come back in 2 years. It's absolutely ridiculous to even compare these two at the position. E.J. is not only the best, and most qualified person for the job, He's actually the best INDIE for the job!

And on the next note, how would you know what Ryan Moseley's ideas are yet? Oh wait you don't. So this sounds like judgement based on the fact he runs the party that apparently you couldn't get along with.

Anonymous said...

Hey Elizabeth worked for Governor Jeb Bush, I think that starts to qualify her for something. I don't know Vanessa, but she has a great big sister.

also people should not be bouncing around rumors about sexual orientation of any of the candidates, especially when there were rumors bouncing around about the major candidates last years.

Christian Duque said...

The name E.J. Walicki still commands a certain level of respect on this site. And thank you for recognizing he was an early favorite of mine. Let's also remember that in 2006 I endorsed Swamp over Unite (primarily b/c of Lydia).

However, given the conditions of this election and given the fact that the Indie hierarchy imploded, and given the fact that I believe PANTS are one of the most GDI parties since the Student Alliance in 2003, I must support PANTS and this is something I emailed E.J. about almost a week ago (and he totally understands and will continue to be a friend of this blog).

Anonymous said...

hey you never know when the next access will happen. Like i am sure the people who did access didn't think they were going to win and told they weren't going to win.

Unknown said...

I don't deny that EJ has qualifications. He's a great guy, I've greatly enjoyed my time in IRHA with him.

That being said, the general trend in SG now is to promise the same things election after election then not do anything. Sure you might create a few committee to "explore" what was promised, but for the most part nothing gets accomplished.

Anonymous said...

Stinson tried to join FLC and she tried to get involved only to be snubbed by Sigma Gamma. She was and still is an indy.

In the real world she has worked in the Gov. Bush's office, for the Florida Republican Party, some PR firm, BC04, and the Charlie Crist inaugural committee.

In one of the few true meritocracies, real politics she has survived and thrived. In incestuous Sigma Gamma, politics is only about who you fuck and who you suck. She she is above that.

She may not of held a cabinet position and she may not have done her ONE program a semester but she has more real world experience than the entire Swamp exec ticket combined.

Bruce, Eve, and Elizabeth want to bring professionalism back to SG. Give'em a chance.

Anonymous said...

11:41 AM: Good point. In SG UF World Marc Adler made it to SGP and FBK. In the real world he flunked out of Univ of Miami, was blackballed by the Florida Republican Party, and is basically an known incompetent campaign consultant.

We do need to bring professionalism back to SG.

Nice to know you all are directing the smear campaign at Elizabeth now.

So how do you all feel when you lay in bed at night and realize you are being total pricks to people you don't really know?

And for those of you who aren't talking shit or making deals, but are still backing Gator, how do you feel as well? You are just as morally and ethically compromised. And for what?

Bruce

Anonymous said...

Its hardly a smear campaign to look at the qualifications of each candidate and compare them.

That's called (gasp!) making a smart and informed decision. And is actually the FUNCTION and JOB of the voters.

Being part of a political party it becomes your job to give voters the information about the candidates. Student Body Treasurer is a job which is actually salaried and paid for by the students at the University of Florida. If I were choosing who to hire between two candidates for any other job I would certainly compare their qualifications and when one is so far ahead of the other... the decision wouldn't be hard.

"You are just as morally and ethically compromised."

Compromised? Try morally and ethically vindicated. It is a moral and ethical IMPERATIVE of every single student to look at the qualifications and not simply ignore them.

Just because you don't like what the truth of the situation is doesn't make it a smear campaign. Wouldn't politics be fun if nobody looked at your qualifications! Well... at least for the Pants Party.

Perfect analogies 11:41 and 1:51...clearly, if two individuals fit the theory, then it must be true for the entire population.

J. Clay ran campaigns BEFORE college, and he has made it well known that he considers these more difficult to run. Oh, and this other guy agreed with him, I think his name was Lawton Chiles...

God. You self-important ignoramus. Do you understand political humor? You'll find bullshit like that all the time.

Candidate X speaking to his highscoool, "I went all the way to yale, but i found this highschool harder. You are the best of the best" or similar is not an abnormal construction.

It takes a real Sigma Gamma tool to buy into the idea that running a SG campaign where voters come from a pretty homogenous voting majority is more difficult than running a campaign in one of the most diverse states in America. God you are such a fucking tool.

Anon 2:54:

It's student government; we're not selecting people to head the Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology. There are a wide range of ways to be qualified for these leadership positions. If you think the only qualifications are holding prior office within the system, then we will truly never progress.

One party controls those positions; how many people have been passed over for cabinet, agency, or committee positions because they weren't a part of the system. When you're not a part of the system you take up other activities that prepare you for leadership positions like the ones we elect.

Anonymous said...

The only problem is that unlike, say senate or accent, SBT requires extensive knowledge of and experience with the 800 codes. While I think Liz is a very smart girl who could eventually be a good treasurer, there will still be a considerable period of catching up and learning to run the finance office. I could be completely wrong, maybe she already knows the codes like the back of her hand. She'll just need to show that in the debates.

I would just hate to see what happened with Cabinet this year happen to student orgs with the finance office.

Anonymous said...

So what has EJ done besides whore himself and his minions out to the Gator/Swamp party?

Anonymous said...

I dunno, already held a treasurer and presidential position in a closely related campus organization.

Considered to be one of the best leaders on campus, and not just by me even most indies will readily agree.

Anonymous said...

Exactly Anon 4:17.

I don't mind if a senate candidate or a cabinet director or something doesn't have prior experience from within this system, they can pick it up.

But for the executive ticket the learning curve has to be short, and the transition smooth. These are positions paid for by the student body and they deserve someone who can produce results.

Elizabeth may be able to produce results, she'll have to prove she's worthy in debates and such. But she's already a leg down to E.J. because of his experience. A HUGE leg down.

If people wanted leaders elected on qualifications they would have voted for Susan.

Anonymous said...

I vote for Fei Long (peace be with Him)

Anonymous said...

"already held a treasurer and presidential position in a closely related campus organization."

He was not the treasurer, he was the auditor. The treasurer of IRHA is the business manager. The auditor does not deal with any SG money.

His experience is all general leadership, nothing where he worked closely with SG finance. That's the same kind of qualifications that Stinson has.

Anonymous said...

Plus Liz worked as treasurer with SG finance for Model United Nations when Jimmy (the real treasurer) had better things to do (see Hell Week @ lambda chi).

2:54, see the comments about Eve Rizzo. I don't need to say anything else.

Eve and Liz are both amazing. They are both more than qualified for what's ahead of them. And, both will be excellent when they're elected.

Back to work =)

If all the naysayers are truly troubled by Bruce's choice for the positions of VP and Treasurer, why didn't they simply exert a bit of effort and apply for the opportunity to showcase their "tremendous qualifications"? He is the first individual to give students the CHANCE to step up and get elected based on initiative and quality alone - not appointment based on connections. Rather than ridicule, be glad that some student public servants are stepping up to the plate and speaking on behalf of the population, not cowering behind the shadow of a computer. There are more supporters for Bruce and his campaign then the Gator Party realizes, and I'm glad this "joker" is sticking around for another year :)

some of the top political strategist in the state thought a lot of liz stinson. She is a really good girl and would do a good job in anything she does.

It is easy to pick on someone like Adler who is not at UF anymore and can't defend himself. There are plenty of current guys and girls at UF who think they are important but have no stroke in real life because they just do SG and FBK.

Bruce,

I understand your comments about a smear campaign and I know it is not right for people to say many of the things that they do on blogs, but you must understand that you have now put yourself and your new friends who are running on your ticket in the line of fire for gossip, accusations, and smear campaigns. That is a choice you made when you decided to run and they each made the same choice. You must understand that it is not necessarily suporters of the other party, but simply people who are angry, bitter, and manipulative who say the things they do. No matter what anyone says on these blogs you cannot blame a party or the supporters of a party for what is said behind the cover of anonimity on this or any other blog. All you can do is chosse to respond, and in my mind thus empower them, or choose to ignore it. I wish you and your candidates the best of luck. Enjoy the ride this campaign!

10:33: Of course it is "normal" but the process is sick and it is only a one symptom of the disease. The cure? Pants!

Does anyone know of any real-world experience EJ has?

Anonymous said...

Listen: Stop wasting your time talking about this stuff. You and I both know Gator party is dominating(again). Go have a few drinks and enjoy college :)

Anonymous said...

10:33, I understand exactly where I've placed myself and those on my ticket.

None of that means it's okay for people on here to say what they're saying. That is my point. It's about doing what's right.

As for me incriminating supporters of Gator... well, I know far too much about what your party is up to, especially now that I've been placed in a serious election. And, unless you're on their freshmen slate, you probably know too.

So, if you know that the party you support, one which manipulates elections and people, breaks rules, etc, et al, does all this, you then have full responsibility for being just as bad as them.

This is an outrageous example, but the holocaust only happened because people who didn't believe in it did nothing. People aren't dying here, but that doesn't change a damn thing about whether or not it's right.

Think about that. Think about the type of person you are and want to be. Then let me know how you feel.

Bruce,

10:33 here. My point was not to justify anything anyone says on this blog nor was it to support a party. (I have left all of the Student Government election drama behind me.) My point was simply that from the beginning, people whether they support a particular party or not, have always said, and will always say, horrible things on these blogs. You have now opened yourself up to it knowingly because you were participating before you chose to run. Now you need to grow up and understand that you cannot control people. These people who comment the way they do on this blog in an extremely personl manner that tears at the very fiber of other's being have just as much a right to say something as you do to write letters about current and past SG administrations to the Alligator. Don't complain when all of the sudden it happens to you and your friends. If you don't want togive them any stock and you want it to stop, ignore them and stop commenting. If not, keep right on reacting to them, that's what they want afterall. If you do not believe they will stop, take a look at every other blog that ever came about regarding SG. Many of those were completely based on personal attack and they are no longer there because eventually people stopped reacting. Again, best of luck to you. Always remember, this is only Student Government, but it does reveal deep character traits within each of us. Learn from what you see in yourself and others so that you can become a better leader for the future and so that you can help others to become better leaders.

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard someone say or read that this is "only SG," I'd be rich enough to pledge and get into, ATO.

Maybe at FAU or FIU or UWF it's "just SG," but at Florida (and FSU to a lesser but still significant extent), SG counts for far more. But aside from all the media fanfare and historical tie-ins involved with UF-SG, there are also and more importantly 50,000 voters and A LOT of their money at stake.

I believe, as you do, that Bruce shouldn't let the haters get to him (get to him to the point it hurts him). However if Bruce seriously subscribed to the postions of "it's JUST sg," then this would in fact destroy both his candidacy as well as that of the Party much more effectively than anything Gator could ever throw their way.

Bruce must be the most poised, the most militant, none of us are in his position. He must be the role model for his Party and for the GDI community, forget win or lose the election...right now Bruce has a LOT on his plate, he has to sorta be Super Man and anything short of that is failure and he knows that. So cut him some slack, he's not like me (a graduated guy bloggin) or like you (an informed student trying to help), he's the top guy in a very radikal party...it's tough.

I'm re-reading Rise&Fall of the Third Reich by Shirer. I've read this book about 8x from cover to cover, great Sunday read. Perhaps it wasn't the best example, but some of these letters...if I was a jerk and published them...

A facebook note from Will Foster is interesting but doesn't tie in directly with the letters. Partially by not saying the names of the authors I feel people are now gonna start distrusting of everyone and that's not my intent (I'm actually sad at the possibility of coming witch-hunts) but on the other hand I won't publish these hateful emails b/c they would only counter-act Pants' drive and they are just too offensive even for a guy that hates censorship.

These letters are not pushing the censorship envelope, they are rather pushing for all out hate-speech.
