The Value of Democracy

Mark McShera finally seems to be starting to act like a prospective candidate for Student Body President. I think that in the absence of Sam Miorelli, McShera has been thrust into the spotlight as both the frontrunner and a peacemaker. (Btw, the photo here on the right is one of the latest additions on facebook, but I love this photo; this photo should be used in promotions for the party, it just seems to express everything I think of when I think of Orange & Blue and I'm not there, so just think how cool it is! I've not made such a comment in 3.5yrs of blogging).

Today's meeting will either put an end to The Prog's claim to the nomination or it will leave the Party on hiatus for Spring. The Officials stood back and allowed Hargrove to take charge, but will they allow The Progs to literally take control of the party? Will McShera finally step up and give his hardline supporters a reason to fight? Will McShera the frontrunner, finally, engage Dictor - the challenger?

We'll see. Will the Sam Miorelli we all know return to former form? Will Dictor remain composed, yet focused? Will The Ape try to adjourn the meeting early when things start favoring McShera? Will Dave Schneider make converts out of the nay-sayers? Will Tommy Jardon present? Will The Progs block Trimboli for Member-At-Large? Will Liz Stinson be there? And what will Kyle Huey say? Will there be a primary? Who does SDS really support? Are the Obama Kids more for Mark?. What will Gary Benedix have to say?!? Will Cain Norris be there? Will Cavatero shock the world? What will happen at today's meeting?

Insiders insist there will be little doubt who will run for O&B.

As a first time reader on this opposition party blog, I find it very troubling that there is so much comment and build up about this great party divide. Though it is clearly evident both in the Senate and party meetings that there is a "Prog" movement that seems to be quite different than that of the established foundation of the party, there can definitely be peace and cooperative efforts by both "sides" to represent the same constituency that both are reaching for... what the opposition should stand for - a collection of independent and opposition minded people working together to get the correct message out to the University, that of a movement that brings fairness, equality, and fights off the FBK/Greek nepotism and corrupt systematic bureaucracy- is completely neglected and lost in this over-hyped game that people on the inside (and I guess outside) of the party are playing. Both "sides" of the party, the leaders, the bloggers, insiders, outsiders, friends, enemies, etc. all seem to be feeding the fire with slander and lies. The reality, as I see it, is that you have a group (the whole OB movement/both "sides") of people with the right general ideology for the party as a whole, but different ideas about how to get there. Instead of working to come up with the right plan together, people are set on getting their way. Please everyone (party people, non-party people, bloggers, etc.), come together and realize that most of this fire is built up on simple misunderstandings and misinterpretations of each others words and thoughts, that due to the build up of this game and the inability of seemingly everyone to reach across and at least put yourself in the others shoes to see where they are coming from out of selfishness/fear/whatever it may be, could end up destroying something that everyone inside the party had a hand in building. Put aside this game, the fear of losing power, the fear of making the wrong people mad, the blindness to see another's side, and the lies and slander (that both sides seem to be spitting - and while they may feel they have truthful backing in their claims - most of the time the lies are misunderstandings taken out of context for the benefit of one motive or another). Please Orange and Blue party, represent what you SAY you represent, and what you SHOULD stand for...

not this.

The meeting has been cancelled. Some of "The Officials" tried to force it through anyway, exposing their push for power.

There is a lot more talk about forming a third-party. At this stage in the game, either "The Officials" come to their senses and draft Dictor, they are outvoted in their own party (a distinct possibility) or the O&B is gonna self destruct.

Again, I urge "The Officials" to come to their senses.

They are holding the meeting anyway. This is it, this party is finished. We're going third-party all the way.

Those fuckers installed Joe Tromboli as party chair at the meeting they scheduled so that we couldn't attend. Fuck this party.
