The Veep, Do You Care?

To most, the idea of a running mate (either Democrat or Republican)is of little importance. But there's limits. No I'm not talking about giving Mike Myers or Michael Moore a slot, but some names in the game will certainly cause an eyebrow - or two - to rise. Joe Lieberman for McCain or Diane Feinstein or even Jesse Jackson for Obama. Oh how bad is the American' recollection of history.

I earnestly believe that the Rev. Jesse Jackson if not already, will be considered a top choice for Vice President of the United States. This is a man that did what Obama is doing today 20 years ago! He won key states and has redefined himself to no ends. Some will discuss that this can't happen b/c of a 'generational gap' -- could this be like the one between George W. Bush & Dick Cheney?

Americans can deny that race will play a part in this election, but I'm talking to everyday Americans and hope to talk to thousands by November 2008 and I am of the belief I will run into more and more Americans, Democratic Americans, that have very strong emotions about this election.

Tommy:

You know I have a great deal of respect for you, but when Jesse Helms passed, I was in shock to read 'may the angels lead him to heaven' on your Facebook profile. I can understand your anti-communism, but you are now openly Gay and freely disclose being in a Gay relationship.

I'm sorry to put you on the spot like this...but how can you have such love for such a bigot and homophobe? Do you consider your sexual orientation somewhat of a fault or a sin? Because I believe Gay & Lesbians are as God created them, no different than how he created Staights. God doesn't make mistakes.

Helms accused Gay Men 'revolting behavior' for simply living OUT, he accuses Gay Men for a behavior that's responsible for the 'proliferation of AIDS,' and refused until the day of his death to deny Gays & Lesbians of a shot at a normal life.

When Helms and other Republicans go on homophobic tirades do you tell yourself they're not really talking about you? I'm just curious if there's an on & off switch that's being hit continuously throughout the day? I'm truthfully, sans any sarcasm, most interested in hearing your thoughts on this.

duque you really have lost it. jesse jackson has always been one of the biggest train wrecks in american politics. theres no better way to scare sane americans than to get jackson involved

Jesse Jackson's two runs for president:

1984: Jackson garnered 3,282,431 primary votes, or 18.2 percent of the total, in 1984,[14] and won five primaries and caucuses, including Louisiana, the District of Columbia, South Carolina, Virginia, and one of two separate contests in Mississippi.[15]

1988: He captured 6.9 million votes and won 11 contests; seven primaries (Alabama, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and Virginia) and four caucuses (Delaware, Michigan, South Carolina and Vermont).[18]. Jackson also scored March victories in Alaska's caucuses and Texas's local conventions, despite losing the Texas primary.[3] [4] Some news accounts credit him with 13 wins. [5] Briefly, after he won 55% of the vote in the Michigan Democratic caucus, he was considered the frontrunner for the nomination, as he surpassed all the other candidates in total number of pledged delegates.

Obama should be so lucky to get a Veep to match these numbers. We all know he won't pick Hillary, you honestly think Edwards could do more?

Face it, Jackson isn't being considered b/c a 2-man black ticket scares White America, but don't knock Jackson, he's go the wisdom of an older, seasoned veteran (just like Cheney to Bush).

So Jackson got 100% of the Black vote in the dem primaries. Very impressive. Also as far as I know there are some other qualified candidates than HRC or Edwards. I know you dont really know much about politics but names like Biden, Bayh Rendell and others are options too. The Obama campaign is a tight ship and the idea of adding someone who has used terms like Hymie town certainly isnt helpful.

Ok let's address that point. There was a Jewish lobby interest in destroying the Jackson race in '84 & '88 b/c in '83 he dialogued with Syria, because like President Carter he too believes in a Mid-East Peace process that requires Israel to give as much as it asks the Palestinians to, and finally we can draw parallels with the near exact game pulled on Barack Obama through the early endorse of John McCain by one Jewish lobby-hawk Joe Lieberman.

The Rev. Wright and the scandal that erupted, could easily have given Lieberman & AIPAC room to pull a PR job on Obama the likes of which they did on Jackson in '84/'88 or Carter currently or Chomsky as of the better part of the last ten years.

Jackson is about as racist as Gator is a united party.

Glad to see you concede the point the Jackson isn't a viable VP

Recognizing America's inability to elect two men b/c they're both of similar skin tones, is hardly a concession to Jackson's quality as a running mate.

I have done nothing of the sort. I have called American values into question, if anything.

Jackson is pretty damn racist then.

While talking to a fellow interviewee, an open microphone picked up Jackson whispering, "See, Barack's been talking down to black people. ... I want to cut his nuts off."

Check it on cnn.com if you don't believe me. The reason Jackson wouldn't make a good VP isn't that he's black or that white america is 'scared'. The reason he wouldn't make a good VP is 1) Barack already has the black vote and the states Jackson could bring a ticket 2) He spouts off at the mouth like this saying assinine things 3) He is in fact a racist. I know it's hard for you to comprehend that a black person can be a racist - but if there's one example it's Jesse Jackson. Even if he is only a 'perceived' racist (and it's about as perceived as Helm's gay bashing) then he wouldn't make a good candidate.

Good job picking a VP though, seriously your political commentary is scintillating and couldn't be more correct, you know if you want your VP cutting your nuts off.

Hilarious Duque. The minute after you say Jackson is a legit VP candidate he says that he will cut Obama's balls off. You clearly are an idiot.

Christian Duque said...

Clearly huh?

Hardly.

The fact that I discuss a possible Obama/Jackson pairing and the next day there's some good ole fashioned ball-busting and the children call me an idiot.

Let me further educate some of you, I realize many of you are still battling acne.

Reagan went after Ford with a vengeance and was being considered for Veep material had it not been for Jesse Helms, George H.W. Bush was such a vocal rival of Ronald Reagan that he was selected his veep.

Right now you've got John Edwards and HRC both swooning Obama. However, Obama's cred with the African American community is only as good as the sudden, unexpected Oprah endorsement.

Barack was the favorite of middle class white liberals and young [white] people, this is why up until late January Jackson, Sharpton, and the largest, most powerful African American organizations were almost unanimously supporting Clinton.

If Obama wants to win, he's going to need what many of you think he already has...Black Support. He may be getting support of the African American youth trying to make the next X fashion statement (again, way before many of you children's time), but that's not going to cut it with the middle-age and/or seniors in the community.

Now I'm not saying African Americans would come out for McCain, but they just might stay home (e.g. Walter Mondale '84).

I don't expect much more from anonymous trolls, but I suspect some of you are people I know and I concur, the anonymous approach suits you.

He said he wants to cut off Obama's nuts. Yeah Jackson is gonna get on the ticket.
