Ignite All Over Again?

2008 is not 2005, I'm really not familiar enough with Kevin Reilly to give any kind of an opinion on his character... well, let me rescind that and instead say, I'm not familiar enough with Kevin Reilly to assess his qualities as a candidate for executive office. I am, however, familiar with Tommy Jardon and if if Tommy can focus solely on being the candidate and not deviate from that role (so as to multi-task as a key party player), I think Tom would be rather unstoppable.

Jardon should've run last year. No disrespect to Bruce Haupt, but the GDI's need a candidate that can have more of a cross-cultural base. When I put Accion together, there was doubt that CASA was the major muscle in HSA and even then Tommy was a heavy-hitter, from what the president had told briefed me. (Accion was a semi-secretive H/L effort founded by myself, Fernando Nin, Kathy Valle, & Danny Martinez. The organization boasted of a solid-10-org Board of Directors and in the Fall of 2004 threatened Access by running the Voice Party slate against it, unless Ansell Fernandez, Lola Bovell, Analiz Velasquez, & Laura Gonzalez were slated with the, by-then-almost-entirely corrupt Access Party under the complete control of Andre Samuels (with Party idealists Argento & Harrell out of the picture). "Way to go off on a tangent Duque!"

I expect great things from the generically-named Orange & Blue Party; honestly, I'd feel like a tool voting for such a name, but it's not the name that people should be concerned with. I'm wondering if we'll see any last minute changes in Theta Chi...

Ah, but for the headline. I don't know this version of the Gator Party, but I see an African American running for treasurer and an Asian American running for Veep. No offense, but I'm guessing FBK is right to fear one Tommy Jardon. Two minorities on a Greek ticket is pretty intense, especially when neither of 'em will ever the get the FBK/IFC/PC nod. I don't know how popular Paul Drayton may be, but I seriously doubt he'll come out of a year as treasurer any more popular than Jamal. Jamal was almost like a living-legend, he went to more JSU meetings than many of the Zionists that currently control UF, he was big in the NPHC, he had close ties to the MGC (mainly through a close friend in Gamma Eta), he was well respected in the Christian community, he was an all around workhorse for the MACHINE and the MACHINE passed on him for president.

If Paul Drayton is getting into this race thinking the MACHINE will treat him any differently than it did Jamal, he's simply out of his mind. The MACHNE uses minorities - whether from Hispanic-Latino community (my community), African Americans, Asian Americans, Indians, Persians, WHATEVER! Look at some of the original people in the Pork Chop Gang, I don't know. I don't know what annoys me more, the MACHINE using minorities to scavenge for votes - or - minorities that knowingly go along for the ride and take the scraps from the master's table.

Vote Independent...or go get your shinebox.

Frank Bracco is the real power behind the throne in the GDI party. He owns Tommy Jardon

Duque, I don't really understand what the hell that last sentence means. Do you want Theta Chi to change their letters or something?

Race baiting? I worked my butt off in efforts to elect 1 of 4 African American SBPresidents. You may call it race-baiting, but this is IDENTICAL to the Jamal Sowell case. When's the last time the System ran an African American for Student Body President? Anyone? Anyone know?

Yooni is about as Asian as JH was Hispanic, but the point is almost unequivocal... minorities have systematically been used by the Machine in secondary capacities to win votes.

Wow, there is someone truly trying to build me up to be this masterful politician...either that or they are starting to create yet another flame war .

You do realize that I have never, nor do I now, use the word phase GDI. I consider myself a moderate on all issues. Tommy and I have very different backgrounds, very different viewpoints, and some different issues but we both agree that SG can be changed for the better and looking at the field of candidates we believe we are qualified to do so. Besides O&B is based on a team effort, every individual involved matters, every individual involved counts, from the Party President to the Senate candidates down to the roommate that wears a shirt for a day.

Also the simple fact that you believe that there is some sort of "throne" on the non-system side is laughable at best (we are the anti-system after). I invite you out to our meeting next week to truly see how a real team works together on issues that we care about. Better yet, I invite you out to Pugh Hall at 6:30PM for either the online voting celebration or rally tomorrow (depending upon the Supreme Court outcome). This is actually a group of friends gathering for an issue we all care about.

Also I am always available for lunch and dinner when I am not working on CTV or working to pay my bills. If we eat in the Reitz I will even pay with my FlexBucks . Feel free to e-mail me at frank005 [at] ufl [dot] edu.

This ticket is very interesting. The AA's chose Paul Drayton over Will Atkins (a noble choice in my opinion), though Atkins was basically guaranteed a position. Sucks he is staying at UF another year for nothing. Yooni is another interesting choice. Duque, do you feel she was chosen because of her heritage? This ticket seems to be thrown together, so I'm voting independent.

Well Yooni isn't being used as a minority. She is a PC sorority girl, and very popular with the social houses.

And the AA community is in a different position getting Paul onto the ticket than with Jamal back then from what I understand.

Duque, If they wanted minority points for the VP spot they would have picked Maryam, not Yooni. She has very little AASU pull.

Faces, names, the right to call themselves "diverse." Who are we to rate who's more Asian than not, more Black than not, more Latino than not...

Don'tcha see? Exploitation is here.

*THUMP*

Besides, AASU doesn't matter this year

"Yooni is about as Asian as JH was Hispanic, but the point is almost unequivocal"

You're the one who wrote that.

This is true, I did.

I do not think Will Atkins was considered for an exec spot. Paul was always the intended person because he was set up to be the treasurer by way of budget chair.

I do think it is hilarious that Christian doubted the AA community would ever get a treasurer again, but it seems that they have.

Anon 4:10 I agree. Paul is a better person on exec anyway just because he won't sell his soul for a position (look at what FBK has done to make so many power-hungry, including Atkins). In future years, I hope other communities (minorities included) are represented on tickets, so it does not seem like select groups will always be on the ticket (to produce a winning formula).
