2 Post Wednesday!

Back Home!
Well it's finally a done deal, my pc is back home! Well sorta, the hard-drive is back with all the info, though I got a new case, new motherboard, new processor, and new power supply. For over a month now I've had to go to public library and wait sometimes an hour for a pc, mainly to check my email and to update TR. This blog has really become very important to me and to many of its readers. So now that my pc is back home I will be easier to contact and such. The library is great and plan to continue going there, for those of you who/whom (lol) haven't gone over there, check it out, lots of good books, nice girls, and if you have any kind of muscles you can flex them and listen to people say he "that guy's huge" or "that [expletive] is on steroids" [which I'm not, but I digress].

In regards to PANTS I do want to thank Bruce for having called me (sorry I couldn't pick up, I was on another call). Although I haven't addressed the issue as of late, apparently another blogger confronted the PANTS leader of his dealings with Florida Blue Key. On the message, Bruce insists he'll give me the scoop.

Still, I would prefer Bruce to forget about such details of the past and focus on the Party. I personally don't like the name, but he believes in it and he's got the potential to actually get the ball rolling. If and let me stress if Bruce hopes to get some numbers he's going to need a Gavin Baker, a Ryan Nelson, a Justin Bell, or a Nikki Grant on that exec ticket with him. I don't necessarily think having Tommy Jardon will make or break his campaign, just like having Andre Samuels didn't mean much for Mike Belle in his run for the county commission in 2005.

A nice ticket for PANTS would be a Haupt/Bell/Nelson ticket or a Haupt/Baker/Grant type deal; another interesting ticket would be DeJong/Haupt/Bell -- 'letting the ladies wear the pants as well.' Really, just because Bruce founded the Party doesn't mean he necessarily must have the top spot, besides, how noble of a campaign would that be? DeJong/Haupt/Bell --- I'd think such a ticket would really throw a curve ball at the Swamp Party. Oh well, just thinkin. I guess a gigantic chunk of PANTS chances lie in who they decide to put on that Exec ticket. I would take a pass on getting caught up debating old news and start calling people and having power lunches. It's all about the big names, the exposure, and the radikal havin his computer back home baby!

I could easily see Bruce stepping aside if a better candidate was up to the challenge on running on his ticket. He and the pants people are putting on the campaign for a reason, and that reason isn't to further themselves. If it so happens that the party internal are the most qualified candidates, then they will probably head up the ticket.

True.

J. Bell is with the AA community, now.

all of the other exec slate you have suggested are either done with SG or are supporting Gator. Sorry, the dream is over.

The dream is never over. Any Indie that supports one-party-rule is a traitor. You're never a loser until you tire of losing, bow out, and join those which you cannot defeat simply for that reason and if any other, for the hope of a few scraps off the master's table.

God Save The GDI's!

Is it any better to run a mainstram reject and smack the GDI label on him?

He expected a Mackenzie Moritz style tapping and got smacked down only to crawl over to his own camp because the indies didn't want him and whine about SG's lobbying efforts in an 11th hour change of policy.

I'll really enjoy seeing him get fewer than 1000 votes (if that).

The past is the past. Bruce is looking to put himself into an uphill battle to say the very least and for that he deserves credit. I am eager to see the names of the cross-overs and how cheaply they sold for.

If refusing to put up a probably poorly-qualified and inept candidate just because they don't have letters and instead supporting the single-most-qualified candidate, a man who has unfailingly stood up for and represented the student body, in spite of his letters, is considered selling out, then where do I sign up?

Who were Ryan Nelson, Justin Bell, Gavin Baker and Nikki Grant before they got elected? The same people they are now. If you find smart, passionate, hardworking people... you can create the next wave of superstars regardless.

Remember, as super cool as everyone around these parts thinks they are, 99% of the student body (voters) doesn't give a shit who you are unless you have numbers on the back of your jersey, not "letters."

- Anon 4:51: I would, I told people that when I first started talking to people. No one appeared and it's time to get going.

- Anon 10:58: I lost $35. I'm devastated.

Finally...

Uphill battle? Who doesn't like an underdog? This will be fun. Bring it on haters. :)

Sounds like another Fall Access is in the making. This will be the lowest point the post Spring-Access indies have sunk to. No longer poised for victory, no longer able to make a stand, no longer able to muster even piecemeal resistance, they tuck tail, bow down, seated below the master's table, licking their chops and preparing for a five course meal of falling scraps brushed away from the master's table.

Meanwhile...with less men, less money, and frightening odds, Bruce Haupt prepares the last of the real GDI's for one more charge against the mainstream.

What qualifies Bruce as a genuine GDI? He has letters, he has worked with the system, he ran a joke campaign (the only thing about him that the average student may like), he tried to get tapped, and now he uses the same tired anti-sg rhetoric that every "indie" campaign does.

What even qualifies him to be president? What experience does he have, what policies has he shaped?

People believe in Ryan, even most of the indies, because he's done his job and done it well. When was the last time a treasurer has sat down for hours with any student org that needed help? In his announcing speech he outlined some of the great things he's done for the average student (tutoring company discounts, made free printing improved and fiscally responsible).
Just because he has the majority support and the approval of FBK does not make him a bad candidate or person. Look at his actions and make a fair judgement.

1:35, What qualifies anyone as a genuine GDI? What is that?

"He has letters." So do a lot of people. I'm also an avid rock climber and was once on a swim team.

"he has worked with the system." While I can simply disagree with your opinions for most of this post, this IS an outright lie. Please, explain. I'll be happy to make you feel like an idiot right after.

"he ran a joke campaign" So did they. Come on, their campaigning takes place behind closed doors. I assume that's where you found your loyalty?

"He tried to get tapped" I still don't see the big deal with applying to FBK. If I had sold out, I would have gotten in you would think. I didn't. I applied to a social networking organization that "also" runs a political machine. I didn't apply to join the machine.

"and now he uses the same tired anti-sg rhetoric that every "indie" campaign does." If the rhetoric is so tired, you would think indies would have found something else to talk about. They don't because the rhetoric is true.

"What even qualifies him to be president? What experience does he have, what policies has he shaped?" Give me your email and I'll email you my resume happily. It will probably end up posted on our website tho if you'd like to stay anonymous. ;)

"People believe in Ryan, even most of the indies, because he's done his job and done it well. When was the last time a treasurer has sat down for hours with any student org that needed help?"

I like Ryan too. I have nothing personal against anyone. That's why these blog arguments are fun to me. :)

In a professional sense, though, the way the world should work... well... the party he is the poster child for is worthless and represents the absolute worst of politics and it's a shame that "public service" is attached to the positions his party is running for.

"In his announcing speech he outlined some of the great things he's done for the average student (tutoring company discounts, made free printing improved and fiscally responsible)." Everyone does something good. I won't argue that. But does doing "good A" make doing "bad B" right? No.

"Just because he has the majority support and the approval of FBK does not make him a bad candidate or person. Look at his actions and make a fair judgement." I like him. I think he is a nice person. My hope would be that he wouldn't hate me for what I'm saying. However, he is a bad candidate. Not because of experience and work ethic. But because he is wheeling and dealing with everyone under the sun to get their support. No doubt yours too.

Actions speak louder than words (and political announcement speeches).

My blog nor my posts are aimed to be funny. Single-party rule represents very few and lacks the diversity needed in government to get things of importance to several blocs of the student body under way.

This arrangement may take the work out of campaigning but certainly will not make SG more effective. I have said things in the past that have been deemed 'not so important' and somehow months later here we are talking about them.

There is no way any real Indie would support such a limited version of gov't.

Bruce-

It is nice that you are humoring the insiders and old school kids who frequent this blog. However, everyone who visits this site already knows who they are voting for (they also already know whose going to win). Your time would be much better spent emailing or calling organizational heads (all the BOCC orgs, religious orgs, clubs, everybody). Set up meetings with regular kids who don't already know whose going to win. You'll also need a significant amount of money (at least 10k) to pull of the upset. You are articulate, personable, and have short brown hair. Everything an SG prez needs. You'll have to work your ass off over the next 28 days and I mean work your ASS OFF. But you could pull off the upset. Be open to making deals with disaffected houses (especially smaller fraternities and sororities). You have to have some multicultural and greek support to have a chance. Good luck. You have my vote.

No worries 5:19, but everyone needs time to de-stress. Coincidentally, I find a lot of pleasure on this blog without spending much time. :)

People forget that Justin Bell had the highest vote count for the most competitive seat in the fall elections. He would be a force if he ran, but he seems more happy with the AA community than with the red shirts so I doubt he ever would.
