Congratulations....PANTS! :)

30% of the vote and a senate seat...this from a party that formed in the last hour, around their charismatic leader, Bruce Haupt. The PANTS Party proved to be the real GDI Party, from their platform to campaign work ethic. They went announcing, they ran a full exec with 30-person strong senate slate, and they even reduced the almighty machine into filing last hour complaints on the day of elections. Whether it was the I Voted Stickers or the YouTube videos, PANTS kept Gator on their feet. Their contributions to the electoral process, to student body, and to the livelihood of the Independent tradition at UF are invaluable.

LONG LIVE THE INDEPENDENTS!

I told you they wouldn't break 2800 votes. But they did do an honorable and noble job of keeping the democratic process alive at UF. They stood up when no one else would and they gave Gator a lot of shit. They worked hard and were innovative with their campaigning. They should be proud of themselves and nothing to be dissapointed or embarassed about.

When you win, say nothing. When you lose, say less.

grow up you piece of shit troll...how old are you 28? Find a real life and let the COLLEGE students be, you are a disgrace to alumni

I think it is the "turncoats" who are the true independents. We are independent enough to realize the breadth of diversity included in the new Gator Party.

If the "independents" always have to choose the "independent" party, then they are not really independents, but really they are dependent on the independent party. Is that ironic?

No coalitions, no alligator endorsement (wtf), no FBK backing, no frats or sororities backing them, itty bitty budget and they still got 30% of the vote. Damn, and Gator was celebrating at the end of this??

FYI, Elizabeth got the most votes out of anyone in the whole party and she got the most crap on this blog out of anyone, so those turn coats can shut the fuck up now...

Anonymous said...

Haha no the turncoats can light their cigars and drink their drinks now.

The guys we had faith in will now be in office with 44 amazing senatorial candidates (maybe 45 after the supreme court hearing.).

This right here is one of the very real problems with the "indie party" there is no morale victory in 1 senate seat or some percentage of the vote. "We didn't win, but damn we put up a fight!" won't change things in the long run, it just makes you feel better the next morning.

Anonymous said...

"This right here is one of the very real problems with the "indie party" there is no morale victory in 1 senate seat or some percentage of the vote."

Ya wanna bet? I didn't bend over for a party that doesn't really give a fuck about students and just wants to get smashed at the swamp and feel special in their 300 dollar lily dresses with their vera bradley bags. And I feel damn good about that.

So pass the champaign you indies, and Gator, we'll be back with a vengance next year, with every intention of giving you even more heart burn and headaches and we're going to have fun doing it too...

Anonymous said...

The real problem with indies is that they're more concerned with giving "The System" heart burn and headaches than getting elected.

Anonymous said...

If you think for one minute that Pants gave Gator a headache or made them break a sweat you are dead wrong. This campaign was more about completely breaking all of these Indie kids spirit, it worked.

francisco said...

Just one thing...if the Gator Party wasn't concerned at all then why take the time and fill out complaints? Just sort of seems silly to be but what do I know right :).

Didn't break my spirits, I had lots of fun, got to hear the concerns of a lot of students, and really began to understand the problems of the system here. I talked to the leaders of a couple different clubs and they informed me of there concerns and griefs with SG and that is something we need to work on.

Perhaps Ryan and Co. will make a difference or perhaps it will be status quo. If so, I know I will be around next election season to see if I can make a difference and help these students that actually have concerns that SG is not addressing.

Ya... that was on display at O&B. Oh wait, were you even there? A last minute campaign w/ no factions, FBK, or alligator got 30% of the vote.

They did not need a broken-nosed Patrone nor a sell-out Ben. They still got 30% of the vote.

Anonymous said...

how can you say break there spirit, the pants people cheered after winning one seat last night. It seemed they actually had fun with the election, and did not take the loss hard. The key to politics is not how you win, but how you lose, how you take the loss. Pants now have assumed the independent mantel, which is cool. Best of luck to both sides in the future.

Pedro my friend, you're no Indie. A good leader, yes; a good campaigner, again yes; but you are no Indie.

Anonymous said...

Pedro's more indie than you'll ever be or were.

Christian Duque said...

Right.

Anonymous said...

In a two party race 30% is nothing to be happy about. Pants probably set the Indies back a few steps. The Indies have no competent leadership.

Anonymous said...

5:09: Ah. Everyone who did pants did it just so it wasn't a one party election. Gator people should be happy, otherwise they wouldn't have a reason to some cigars.

Anonymous said...

Everybody hating on the "victory cigar" scenario is getting quite old. Granted that yes, the people who smoke them probably have no idea what a good cigar is or anything of the sort, but using that as an excuse of their apparent "superiority over the poor indies" is nonsense. If they want to smoke, who cares? That is their prerogative. I am by NO MEANS comparing these students to the great Winston Churchill, but he was known to ALWAYS be smoking a cigar wherever he went - does that diminish his reputation as a champion of the masses? Of course not.

Anonymous said...

Well if you saw the number of them around lastnight you'd understand...

Anonymous said...

also lets not forget J Clay was breaking UF Rules about ft from a building.

Anonymous said...

I was waiting for the pictures to come out about the cigars. See if UF had truly tightened and enforced those rules. Could have made J. Clay pay a small fee and he might have missed his bourbon and coke or whatever his drink of choice was.

I will agree the cigars were really annoying. Get that stuff the hell off the campus. But seriously, what were you celebrating? Was this election ever really in doubt? It's kinda like the star football player who overcelebrates in the endzone against the PeeWees, have some class and act like you have been there before.

Before you say that Pants didn't show any class. First and foremost lead by example.

Anonymous said...

How did Pants not show class? Chearing over their win seat was very postive.

Anonymous said...

Pants showed no class in their entire campaign.

And as for the victory cigars we're a bunch of 18-22 year old kids (besides you Christian!) who have been out campaigning in the sun for 13 hours a day for the past couple days, who pioneered a platform and made it through the entire process. If we want to celebrate our victory then we damn well will. If you don't like it... maybe you should win an election.

Anonymous said...

ummm... I had no part in either campaign, just a neutral observer. I know shocking. Sorry, 13 hours in the sun doesn't give you the right to break UF rules (sorry about that, but it doesn't). Smoke someplace else. Smoke on the way to Swamp, Smoke if you must at Swamp. But don't pollute the air with your foul smelling cigars. Most of the people are just copying what they think you do when you celebrate.

Have no problem with hooting and hollering, heck go buy a shot (if you are legal) at the Swamp, Gator City, or the Atlantic. But don't pollute my air.

As for Pants not showing class, my previous post wasn't to say that they didn't show class or they did show class, but to say that it is irrelevant in the total scheme of things in how Gator should act.

Anonymous said...

Dear God, life sounds rough for you! Struggling through such adversity for such a noble cause! Triumphing over a mighty adversary who just wanted to bring the common man down. Maybe you should go on Oprah or try and get a book deal.

If you think working 3 days for 13 hours "slaving away in the hot sun" harrassing students with palm cards is rough work, maybe you should oh I dunno, realize what a god forsaken pussy you sound like. Go cry to daddy instead, maybe he'll buy you that BMW X5 you've had your eye on.

Anonymous said...

Fuck an X5. I'll just keep on buying elections to piss you all off.

I only do it because I can.

9:21: Welcome back Goldberg.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone see that the cigars were some much needed irony? Y'all gave Arturo such hell for smoking one after his win. We were making fun of the whole uproar. Also, if you really feel up to it, go and draw a line 50 feet away from the entrance to the O&B or Reitz. They looked 50 ft away to me.

Shut up about the damn cigars already.

Anonymous said...

I don't mind if the cigars are the only thing they can think of to be upset about. It really shows their priorities.

Anonymous said...

PROSTATE

Anonymous said...

Haha I sound like a pussy? You are the guys complaining about a goddamn cigar.

I hope it gives you cancer.

Anonymous said...

I do find it funny that the same people that complain that someone is not following the rules by giving out I Voted stickers. Are hating the fact that they should have to follow the rules about cigars.

Anyway, it was a well run campaign, just don't see the need for the cigars. If the Gator Party middle management/leaders are this touchy/excited about beating the Pants Party, what would happen if they actually won a real campaign? Burn the union down? Light up the weed? Nobody took Pants serious (except Christian). So once you realize that this a very, very small victory by the campaign leadership than you will actually be able to lead.

By the way, Ryan, Vanessa, and E.J. will do a tremendous job, but they could have run random kids and still beaten Bruce and his band of nobodys.

Oh and if Christian is the standard bearer for indies, I will choose to be a turncoat or whatever the new name is. Christian, mocking people who might potentially return to the hold just makes them want to quit, not get involved.

BTW Christian, it is now March 1st, I want to know if Political deals are ok!!! YOU PROMISED!!!

Anonymous said...

ym-

I agree that it's ironic that people were violating the smoking ban. There is a difference, however, between people who are usually non-smokers forgetting about a new rule that doesn't usually apply to them and has only recently been instituted, and deliberately passing out material that, while it may or may not be campaign material, people know will have an impact on the election system.

And please don't argue that there was a different motivation. I'm a turncoat, I've been in indie campaign meetings where the impact of "I Voted" stickers was discussed and how to get around them.

Also, had anyone asked me to stop smoking my cigar, I gladly would have. The indies were asked to stop, and they didn't.

That's the difference.

Anonymous said...

I'm more indie than Pedro Morales!!!

Anonymous said...

Christian Duque's left testicle is too small from steroids to be counted as anything.

Anonymous said...

cigars were great cause we were too drunk to toke

Anonymous said...

To even call the I voted stickers debacle and smoking a cigar 5 feet too close to a building the same thing is just flat out stupid.

Anonymous said...

why is it stupid? One is an SG election rule, which only applies to campaigners, one is a UF rule that is applied to an entire university including students, faculty, and staff.

Just explain why one rule should be followed and the other not? Because one side is the winner?

To 11:27, that is a reasonable response, I can imagine people not realizing that it a violation. But would you allow Pants Party to get away with an excuse of ignorance?

Other than that, I still don't see why cigars were needed to celebrate. Once again, was there ever a doubt about this election.

Anonymous said...

Don't hate on cigars. Im in the pants party and I smoked one after the announcements back home to relax. Fuck the 50 foot rule, UF is unfairly punishing the minorities.
Plusssssss we were just at Farah's, a hookah shop, if smoke bothers you, why the fuck did we go there?

Anonymous said...

Ignoring a cease and desist order that ultimately gets your party recommended for diqualification

and

Smoking a cigar 5 feet to close to a building which warrants being asked to walk 5 feet away.

They are completely different. If not for the reasons - while the rules are there, warnings would be issued in both cases. We'd probably follow them and walk away, unlike the Pants party campaigners.

Also, no political party is going to be held responsible for an individual smoking to close to a building.

They are different, and I'm sorry you are utterly stupid and should kill yourself if you believe them to be the same

Anonymous said...

Well at least im not a gaytor. lol.
The legality of the cease and desist was dubious at best.
You do admit that you'd "probably" walk away. Im sure a member if the EC was wearing an inside out brown shirt you might be more inclinded to not follow thier quasi-legal orders.

Anonymous said...

Oh good lord, it was a Greek Week shirt. The girl isn't stupid enough to wear a Gator shirt in public, she would be removed from the commission for being partisan.

Though I don't deny that she probably was biased, all things considering. But it really didn't matter, the indies pissed off Jenny Cohen and she was about ready to kill Rose.

I mean, really! Rose?! Were you trying to alienate the whole commission?

Anonymous said...

There is a reason Rose never wins a case in front of the Elections Commission or the Supreme Court. Even when she has good points she ALWAYS digs her own grave by being overly abrasive and not knwoing when to quit when she's ahead. Her opponents just have to sit there and watch as she self destructs. She will be a great lawyer though (that is once she gets a real legal education)

Anonymous said...

The bickering taking place on here is insane.

For what it's worth, I don't care about the cigars. I also cheered for every seat that was won by Pants (Alan), or by Gator. Sorry, that's just how I am.

As for election practices, aside from my mistake with one complaint about Yooni's email going out prior to the election season starting (it did lack a Pd. Pol. Ad. tho), everything else was true.

I may have lacked conclusive evidence, but that doesn't mean that Weiqi didn't tell me he was told not to run with us or else his organization would lose funding.

It was also nice seeing conversations about voter boards between house leaders and ryan taking place right in front of me. Kind of stunning really...

And "I Voted" stickers? Please. If that's campaign material then pollworkers shouldn't be giving them out. Simple solution: eliminate the stickers. Oh, but you won't... and why?

It was never voter suppression on our part. It was preventing voter coercion on yours. No doubt, I'll see you all at the Supreme Court hearing.

Anyway, it was a fun election for us. We may not have won the good fight, but we did fight it. That's what counts and that's why I'll never have a regret about my participation at UF.

Tootles,

Bruce

PROSTATE. Does J Clay like it?

Anonymous said...

COCK. Does Bruce like it?

Anonymous said...

Bruce,

The fact of the matter is material can be different depending on who it is distributed by and for what intention. It can be campaign material when passed out by Pants and non-partisan material when passed out by a poll worker. Its not a huge leap of logic, so make it.

Secondly, if the sticker market was inflated or poll workers stopped handing them out because of this, then Pants would accomplish one goal on their platform. This obviously might make people vote for Pants as they have then accomplished something they promised before taking office. There's how you get votes from it.

You made a mistake, and now its going to cost a kid who probably wasn't implicit in this his senate seat. Hope that feels good.

Anonymous said...

"You made a mistake, and now its going to cost a kid who probably wasn't implicit in this his senate seat. Hope that feels good."

Almost as good as your mom felt last night... Sorry couldn't resist

Puh-leeze, if it was a greek week shirt, then why in the name of all that is good and holy did she turn it inside out. I thought a fashion conscious sorority chick would check that small fact before she walked out the door in the morning.

And as for Rose, trust me, the reason the committee doesn't like her is the committe is a bunch of senate appointed douches, not that she's abrassive. If Rose offended them for being abrassive, then her opposing counsel should have offended them for being an incompetent slimeball who couldn't win an argument against a mute quadrapalegic.

As for the pussy who wished cancer on me- Someone needs to take a midol. If you're angry that I think you are a pussy because you think 3 days of harrassing people in turlington is hard work, and think that it's ok to wish death to someone who's mearley pointing out a fact, you really not only are a pussy, you are a dick too.

Anonymous said...

There are pictures and videos of 5+ members of Pants passing them out not limited too Will Foster, Christian Duque, and Bruce Haupt.

Will Foster was not an isolated incident.

WIll said...

Damn, I always wanted to be an isolated incident.

Anonymous said...

Brian Aungst's testimony at the EC meeting was that the sophomore PANTS candidate was outside the Reitz with a Pants Pole handing out stickers. It wasn't an isolated incident, as much as Will would love to be one.

P.S.- Will, that was funny. I actually did laugh out loud. Touche.

Anonymous said...

Brian Aungst has been above board in this election. It's not his fault some douchey Gator Party kid filed a complaint or that the Elections Commission is incompetent. Plus he warned us before the election it was a risk and we took it so we have no one to blame but ourselves.

WIll said...

JCB is cool and not some "douchey Gator Party kid." Unlike the rest of the Gator Party leadership he at least responded to my "hellos." Politics shouldn't end civility.

Yes, Aungst has been fantastic.

Yes, the Elections Commission made a ruling Pants may disagree with but that doesn't make the EC incompetent.

Honesty, I think your post is a gator plant to make Pants look bad.

WIll said...

BTW: besides the alligator EDITORIAL can someone show me where the Pants Party has called for the elimination of stickers? It wasn't on the platform.

francisco said...

Actually JCB was the only one that never said hello when I said hi.

Brian was pretty cool to me, no problems on my end.

Hmm I think that "sophomore PANTS candidate" was wearing the I voted stickers as a tie but (yet again) what do I know? As far as I know that "sophomore PANTS canidate" was also asked by many Greeks for stickers, including Gator Party volunteers, but the tie remained intact.

francisco said...

Also, according to the Chief Justice Gavrich there are no hearings scheduled at this time...perhaps I asked the wrong court for information?

Anonymous said...

Nope, they just don't know what to do. They held a meeting today at the law school to figure out how to proceed.

Anonymous said...

Ugh. Does this mean that I'm trapped in Senate? Or will they validate this Tuesday anyway so I can be done with all this?

Anonymous said...

I think they'll have the hearing Monday night.

Anonymous said...

Just because someone says hello to you doesn't mean jack shit. You can be a jackass that says hello to everyone or you can be a perfectly nice person that doesn't feel like they have to say hello to everyone that they kinda sorta recognize. Just because you got the warm and fuzzies because JCB said hello to you means absolutely nothing in regards to his personality.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Chrsitian and co for my access you have helped the indies innovate by giving them a voice but I am off to make some progress in cleaning my room. Hopefully by the time my g/f comes over i will have made an impact. Then maybe she, Susan may want to unite and i can get some action from my little nina's party in my pants..

In the meantime my gatoris going into the swamp, go gator go!

Anonymous said...

Don't you bitches ever study.

Anonymous said...

Study? On a Friday night? hahaha that's a good one. And I was talking to Will. Don't think that everyone who smiles and waves to you is a nice person...

Anonymous said...

Not to say that JCB is a horrible person, but you can't let a smile and a nod be your only judge of character...

Anonymous said...

And you can't say that just because people didn't say hi or nod, they're automatically assholes. You were being pretty annoying, Will, but I'm sure you're much nicer to deal with outside of politics. So people just kind of ignored you.

Anonymous said...

Gator Party leadership that dealt with greeks, he had his kids going up and constantly stealing those I Voted stickers just so you know. Their effectiveness was effectively minimalized.

Anonymous said...

3:45: that was well known. I recall Will handing out stickers to well known Gator Party people.

francisco said...

Yup, as far as I could tell Mr. Foster wasn't being bias in who he was handing "I Voted" stickers out to, whoever wanted them was more than welcome to have them. I really couldn't see that as voter suppression as some have called it.

Anonymous said...

Please show me the statute that says voter suppression is illegal.

Anonymous said...

From what I know, JCB is actually a pretty good kid. He ran a system campaign with a genuine emphasis on ideas and policy, and there is something to be said for that. He seems to have been courteous and friendly to his rivals both in and out of chambers.

I remember being surprised at his reaction to losing on the Smathers bill (by 1 vote): he thanked everyone for their ideas and took nothing personally, even though the Swamp Party Black Caucus had just given him a big "fuck you."

Even if he did overreact to the stickers, up to that point he had run a phenomenal campaign, one of the cleanest we've seen from a Greek-backed party.

However, I think he may have sacrificed his own political future in the process - count him out for SBP if he was ever planning on it. He runs around with a pretty shady group of Theta Chi/FBK's, and after all this I see his influence as a public SG figure greatly reduced. His Senate resignation seems so conveniently timed with the election, there MUST be something up there. With that crowd and reputation, he's going to be an easy target for AEPi's Blue Key assassins.

If anyone else knows anything about the newest shadowy figure of SG, keep this post going. I'm eager to know more about what the guy Agrusa describes as "bossman." lol...what a tool, our new Senate President...

p.s: Christian, you got any info here? Maybe a post?

Anonymous said...

He is a tool, but with Pedro Allende graduating and the old guard on the way out it seems JCB and AEPi's Evan Tyroler are the most powerful men on campus. Obviously Theta Chi/JCB won the first round against Tyroler and crew.

Anonymous said...

Leave Agrusa out of it. Calling him "bossman" is obviously a joke. We all teased JCB a little about his intensity during the campaign.

Anonymous said...

In the infamous words of JCB:

"VOOOOOOTTTTTTEEEEEEEEE!"

Why did JCB resign?
