Emails from both sides of the aisle have poured in regarding the Senate President Pro Tempore & fmr. Gator Party Chairman Sam Green. Two somewhat-consistent TR sources in what I deem today's African American community at UF seem remained almost frighteningly too quiet when I emailed them on two different occasions (don't worry I won't publish your name guys) since word of Sen. Green's outcome became somewhat public in my comments section. My two A.A.-community-sources, like myself, have alwways been big-writers and anything but concise. My questions remained unanswered.

Screwed by the system and considered completely subservient to his FBK masters, could the humiliation of being rejected by the organization that tops the list of career politicos such as himself, throw the Pro Tem over the edge and creating in him a desire to run for the SB-Presidency in 2007. Not tapping the highest ranking SG member of the African American community at UF is ballsy, in fact it's pretty damn stupid. Even if Green is loyal, even if the man is a loyalist and a hardworker that can roll with the punches, he is also a high ranking SG official, a salaried SG official, a leader of his community. Sam Green is a man and as a man I don't know how much humiliation he can take, personally I think GDI's should can the waiting game between Moseley and Weiss and consider speaking with Sam Green.

Sam Green today has the same position Andre Samuels had when Jamal ran for SBP; Sam Green has the position Ryan Nelson yearned for; rejecting a Senate President Pro Tem that has bled for the mainstream party is foul, I believe FBK leaders ought to re-count those votes and tap Green or possibly face another 2004'esque ass whoopin.

With the Sam thing. I feel her didn't do well with Rules and Ethics, which is to explain his FBK demise this Fall.

I would encourage him to do a good job as Senate President this fall to spring term and give it all he has in the Spring.

Why does FBK continue to infuriate the A.A.'s? They are still the strongest minority group on campus. They could seriously fuck up an election for anybody!

Christian once again you have illustrated that your anonymous commentaters are more knowledgable than you. Of course whomever gains the "A A community" vote as you put it will gain the SG presidency, but Green is nowhere near the personality or the leader that Samuels or Jamal were. The BSU bloc will cut their deal just like everyone esle, if Green benefits good for him, if not it is because he doesn't deserve it. WHAT HAS HE DONE???!

Anonymous said...

True, Jamal possessed exceptional charisma. Not to mention, the right backing in Andre Samuels.

Sam would have faced a significant number of no confidence votes had Josh not botched the election in his favor. His job as R&E chair was horrible, and people knew about it. While he has done a somewhat better job so far as Pro Temp, that was not enough to tap him. His only loyal supporters are the blacks and even some of them aren't fully behind him.

What happened with the Hispanic tappings? I heard that Arturo was able to get in his Sigma Lambda Beta fraternity brothers and the HSA president. Kathy Valle of Lambda Theta Alpha didn't get in!

Anonymous said...

From what I hear Kathy was close to being qualified, but she needs to win her HSA presidency and then re-apply next fall.

She's a top leader and her sorority sisters are also very good. LTA is a very strong MGC sorority.

remember folks...tapping takes at least a majority of chapter to support someone, in some case 2/3 of chapter. Sam will have no problem getting when he has finished his job. By most accounts, he was "given" the Senate Pro Temp. If he had earned it, he probably would have had a better chance in key. In some ways, FBK spoke out against rewarding those who have "gift" positions. If Sam is the leader you all think he is, then he will earn it.

People get hit for FBK every semester. It is a part of the process. If everyone got in, it wouldn't be FBK.

Anonymous said...

Isn't he just a sophomore? Doesn't he have like 4 or 5 more semesters to be tapped? He needs to focus on doing good work and good programming first! He needs to focus on his classes and being a student. FBK is a great honor that hasn't escaped him. No one is entitled to be tapped just because they have a certain position! Sheesh....get over it and apply again like everyone else.

Anonymous said...

Yeah....thats the problem with people like him... already thinking about what "position" he wants! Focus on what you are doing RIGHT NOW and stop being so greedy! Whether you are in a greek house or independent....you shouldn't just be grabbing for certain titles or certain positions just because. That is fake and leads to crappy leadership and programs!

None of you people here know Sam! You all are acting like he is the most calculating guy in SG history, or that this is the most devastating thing to happen to him in his life.

Sheesh, give him a break.

I think it is in really bad taste to post pictures, and stats on people. It's not that serious!

Guys,
In reading this blog, I find a few things funny. First, the fact that someone had time to make a blog about one person who didn't get in to FBK is hilarious. Secondly, more than half the people who are writing in this blog are not even in FBK, so it's even more funny that some of you are saying what makes a person eligible for FBK. Thirdly, unless you heard Sam say he has a right to be in FBK, don't say it --- that makes you look more childish than you already do. Fourth, as many of you despise SG politics and the whole "system", I find it quite ironic that you feel compelled to keep discussing SG politics and who will do what. Be a man or woman of your word --- if you don't like SG, stick to that mentality. Don't waste time posting on plogs, don't go to Senate just to comment on who is sitting next to who, and the list goes on... To my knowledge, Sam has not expressed interest in anything. If it is his time to be a member of FBK, he will know it and will get tapped. And then, you jerks will make another blog about him getting in. Some of you make me laugh, and I continue to laugh at how much Sam has done and how little you have done to better UF and the Gainesville community.

Excuse, let me debunk some legends here. Jamal was a great leader and Jamal did have charisma, but Jamal was also a horrible public speaker (anyone in senate will vouch to that) and Jamal was in Key and was given the #2 spot w/ the system Ignite Party.

What has Sam Green done? He delivered his community on a platter, he served as Joe Goldberg's Party Chairman, he is the current #2 of Senate, in addition to his various roles within BSU and the his community.

As far as Andre Samuels goes, the kid was an awful Pro Tem (one of the least effective) and let this be known, Samuels in my opinioonwas a political gangster, he did not win hearts and minds, he controlled them through a web of deals and bureaucratic measures. AS was very much like PA.

To compare Sam Green to Samuels is silly, charisma-wise Green takes it. Jamal was a great leader, but had many flaws that get swept under the nostalgia of our victory.

If I were Sam Green, I would at least recruit people in the NPHC, BSU, CARIBSA, and within both Swamp & Action to form a hush-hush exploratory committee to test the waters of a possible run for the presidency. If I was Pro Tem ahd the top figure of the strongest minority group on campus and I got rejected FBK, I would at least explore the options of what chances I would have at running.

The A.A.'s have a lot of actives FBK'ers now. I'm sure they will get him in.

Christian Duque said...

Get him is not the same as "GOT HIM." The present speaks poorly of the future. Bowing down has clearly done nothing for Green, it might be time to stand up.

I wonder...if Green did take the plunge...would the GDI's have the sense to follow him like SA followed Jamal?

Anonymous said...

I don't think Sam will run for SBP this spring, but he definitely will be taken care of in the future. His community is asserting itself once again.

The Blacks are Irrelevant...Capital I. Seriously what a failure in the sellout to goldberg they had an awful senate president that proved blacks shouldn't have high leadership and they follow it up with a wonderful example of ...Ms. Lydia "I'm not fucking qualified in any sense" Washington. Please they are awful.

And please explain to me what is bigotted about pointing out how unqualified black candidates have been? Seriously for that mater the current VP wouldn't have been selected were it not for the fact that he is brown and GAY.

Arturo isn't GAY, he's Hispanic! You're a dumbass!

Sam Green for president? Christian, why not look for someone who is really deserving? Why does it have to be an AA? Why not an Asian, a Hispanic, a female, anyone who is close to QUALIFIED. Green does not deserve to be bashed, but he has yet to prove that he can handle the job he has now. He was just elected Pro-Temp (by default) in September? Christian, what has he done besides hold positions? What has he done as R&E chair? As Pro-Temp? I would not count him out for an executive ticket position (BSU can definitely get him that), but you are Radikal if you believe in advancing people simply because of the title they hold and the color of their skin. You have yet to tell us what he has done that deserves skipping him from the lowest of the 5 positions to the highest. If people are looking for a candidate, look at the track record of prospective candidates before deciding. There is nothing wrong with having a ticket with all white males, if they are the most qualified. What community a candidate comes from is inconsequential. What matters is can he or she do the job, and can they do it well. In that case there are so many other student leaders, who are working tirelessly in other student organizations, who definitely have what it takes to run the GATOR NATION. They are white, Asian, Hispanic, black, all mixed up, girl, boy, and/or transgendered. So many student leaders, why is the focus on this ONE!! I am a little surprised by you CD. I thought you would be the one to support the most qualified candidate and not just dispose of or support someone because of what community they come from. Josh and Ryan are both capable leaders. They are also senior to Green. Green will have his chance.

Anonymous said...

Well I'm sure Sam isn't their only qualified candidate for Spring.

Anonymous said...

With all do respect, Christian, have you asked Sam Green if yuor revolt is best for him? I'm all for fighting, but I would make it my battle without HIS consent.

Anonymous said...

That's very true from the above anon. Perhaps Sam doesn't want to make a big deal out of this. Similarly with Phil, Christian just threw him in the blog tabloid style.

Your involvement in these matters is counterproductive and underscores the achievements these men have.

You guys have messed with thw wrong NEGRO........ I advise u to leave Samuel L. Green alone before you guys feel the rath....and thatS for REAL

For the record, Pro Tem Green wrote me recently. He is happy with the probe and my campaign.

Please Sam Green is a joke and so are the sorry community he comes from.

Anonymous said...

In the previous comment you mention that Sam Green is a joke and the community he comes from. The community he comes from is the African American Community and you are a fucking racist to make a comment like that. Sam was not a joke when he and the A.A Community help get the whites into there current S.G. positions that they are in and have been in. But hey thats the white man for you, always uses the black man. Why is it that you crackers who are posting these comments are afraid to leave your name. Man up

This kind of crap makes me sick. I am still relatively new to the senate scene. But, if we as student leaders talk like this, I can see why students feel the way that they do about SG. I am white and Greek and I think that it is extremely important that Sam Green is in the position that he is in.

To the last post,
It's terrible that you think that way. It may be true on some levels but to make the generalizations that you have made is just as bad as the comments that precede your post...
