Another Day, No Gator Party Platform

...From The Trail

"Gator has made only one minor roster change at this point. They replaced a District D candidate with Jimmy Carlsen. He probably wasn't originally re-slated because he's very openly ambitious and Goldberger really wanted to reshuffle the deck this fall. If you weren't headed for a leadership position and bringing a crucial group you didn't get to stick around. I imagine they realized they need a few uber tools like Jimmy to parrot the party line and Lamda Chi whined about being left out. Another possibly reason is the lack of returners on Rules and Ethics. Beau Frail is on track to be chair of the committee and he's one of the more rational members of the Gator Party. He and Danielle D Oyley were the only members of R&E to realize there was a problem with Sheldon claiming to live in a mailbox. With Carlsen on R&E they have a reliable party hack to possibly supplant Sen. Frail. As we are going to sweep District D, this is all irrelevant."

Jimmy Carlssen Returns
Has Gator crushed the rising star's ego - or - did the sidelining only serve to sharpen his SG acumen for the future? Will he be more selective what company he keeps and/or want alliances for the Spring? After all, so many SG'ers have been lost throught the cracks...you don't get re-slated, you're usually finished. Usually.

The Machine has slapped Carlssen down. If he's to have a future in SG, I would think they were successful in breaking him, as they've broken down all the others. For all her clever tactics at suppressing Access in the Spring & Summer of '04, Meredith Pelton crossed Goldberg...so when the next Spring she marched right into the slating room and then to the Gator room, she must have been stunned when her treasured Accounting seat was hers no more. She was finished, but Carlssen lives on - as fate would have it.

I hardly would feel very wanted in that party if I were him.

Mark McShera: Machen picked the wrong side"

Excellent letter if I may say so myself.

Carlsen is back on the Gator slate because Gator neglected to tell one of their candidates that he was on the slate, so he missed the mandatory meeting.

LOL O&B sweep D? You silly kids do know that all of AEPi lives there now, right?

I'm sorry, since when did Jimmy Carlsen become a big name in Gator? Can we please quit focusing on people with absolutely no power?

One note about your Carlsen update, Christian:

In recent memory, the minority party has only won seats in District D twice - 2000 during the BOCC filibuster and in 2005 with Impact. And in each case they didn't sweep the district - FBK's party won seats, too.

So it's not entirely irrelevant that they brought Carlsen back onto the slate. He could very well end up being one of those who spoils a GDI sweep in that district.

And just to give more recent-historical notes: the GDIs have only won District C twice - in 1998 as tempers flared over McGovern and FBK and in 2000 when tempers flared over BOCC. Most seats won in the fall come on campus, particularly honors dorms.

So it's a tough hill to climb for the GDIs this fall.

But even with that history, the one danger for the FBK and the potential opportunity for the GDIs is that it doesn't take a big margin to sweep the lion share of the seats. No matter how much your strongest candidate wins by, as long as your weakest candidate wins by 1 vote, it's still a sweep.

The SG elections generally work to reward straight-ticket voting, while allowing individual victories if the margin is close or there is split-ticketing going on.

The problem for the GDIs historically has been turnout, especially in years where the fall doesn't generate much controversy. Fortunately for the O&B, 2008 is not a typically fall election season.

They had to bring Carlsen back on board so they could continue to claim "diversity"

no one cares about carlsen.

Huh? How does a white greek male add diversity, especially when he's replacing the only asian guy on gator's slate?

Gator's platform is out, and laughable.

Rumors about someone's sexual orientation are irrelevant. Unfortunately Winston Lui arrived about 5 minutes after the candidates information session had ended. He hadn't filed an excuse form because he expected to attend. Unfortunately he was late from a test and with Frank and Sam being their typical blow hard selves, the SOE had no other option but to DQ Winston. I guess Jimmy lucks out...

Rules are rules, the law is there for a reason. Too bad another individual decided to break not only statutes, but state and federal law to allow her friend to run.

Anyone know two FDLE agents were on the third floor?
