The Future Is Bright

Naadira Renfroe's future in UF Student Government seems brighter than ever. Anonymous emails submitted to TheRadikal.com indicating support in certain honoraries and organizational councils were verified over the course of the last week. [My] Gator insiders (including learned alums) believe that Naadira Renfroe will be named to an important position in the Gator Party for the Fall 2008 campaign, with a strong push by the African American bloc to have Renfroe placed in serious contention for the Student Body Vice Presidency in 2009. If selected, Renfroe would be in strategic position to run for the Student Body Presidency in 2010 (almost a decade after the presidency of one Nikki Fried).

In the event Gator splits, the African American vote will be critical. Many student leaders, speaking on condition of anonymity, believe Johnson will run with or without the support of the majority of Gator. Unlike Ridgway & Weiss before him, many believe Johnson would blitz the line of scrimmage and go all the way to a run-off if need be. Johnson's chief rival to date, is Kellie Dale, which everyone swears will be gone & graduated by then. Dale, according to independents, is one of the least popular and most inept senate presidents in recent history. However, poor marks from independents are worth their weight in gold on fraternity & sorority row.

Whoever gets in the mix for '09-'10 will need the African American community and I believe those of you on the ground will see key realignments this Fall.

I have tried numerous times to reach the current Student Body President. I invited him and Mr. Weiss to a Q&A, neither one of which replied (though E.J. Walicki did and that is greatly appreciated). The couple of times I saw him, there was no sort of introduction, I mean I did endorse his ticket last year and I did deliver some good blows on Unite (mainly due to the MVP buy-out and Jared's System connections). I also applauded his work with course packs, but nothing.

Mr. Moseley reminded me a great deal of my colleague, John Printy, only Mr. Printy's mannerisms were sincere, while those of Mr. Moseley seemed opportunistic and blatantly exerted. I will not elaborate, instead I'll allow the deep-thinkers in here to digest that one. I was insulted and I've emailed him before. This cold-shoulder act, coupled with the edicts of his Press Secretary at censuring people her senior from speaking to blogs, primarily The Radikal have left me beside myself. The ineptness - or complicity of - the Independent Florida Alligator in not reporting the shifting of major blocks in Florida Blue Key and/or of the Moseley/Weiss stand-off or the Sam Green Block only add fuel to the already wild fire spreading throughout the annals of student leadership at the University of Florida.

On the other hand, there are many people that believe Moseley will bring about positive change, that he truly wants to improve Student Government, that he's poised to do great things. While I believe it's critical for students to know who's in power and by what means, I also think it's fair and pertinent to include the other side. I am not looking to go on the offensive, rather, I want to put the spotlight on this truly deserving public servant.

Who Is Anuradha Pandey?

Yes who is Anuradha Pandey and what the hell is she smoking? George Smathers was a bigot, a racist, and at least in my opinion, they did the right thing in not honoring his life. This 'reporter' seems fixated on George Smathers 'donor hat' but she fails to comment on a legacy that allowed for black children to be kept from white schools and for a legacy that allowed Blacks to be addressed as niggers, that allowed blacks to be spat on at white lunch counters, that allowed blacks to be arrested for where they rode on public buses, that forbade blacks drinking from white water fountains, that shorted blacks from their right to the polls, that divided this nation on the basis of skin color.

As this fucking idiot trashes senate for its record of silly bills, she then attacks senators of not passing bills that make it to the floor because then that would be "disrespectful," what a fuckin idiot! Then "Anuradha, The Village Idiot" tries to sound GDI by raising fears of the Greek Machine taking over SG; then she rallies for online voting which has been insisted by key Indies (myself added to those...) is not a sure-fire tool to increase votes (e.g. FSU); finally "Anuradha, The Village Idiot" lashes out with, " I don't advocate getting rid of SG entirely, but it really needs to be shaved down to be more efficient" -- which immediately made me wonder if this fictitious character has ever been to a Senate Budget Committee meeting, sat in on a budget, or witnessed the work of the Senate Allocations Commmittee. Her rhetoric drips of Turlington Plaza campaign day hype, she goes on to make mention of the A&S Fees and concludes her stab-at-how-SG-works with a charge that students don't care, students won't vote.
