The Deliverance of Pedro Morales

Pedro, like JCB, provided a great deal of insight to this blog and was publicly associated with many of the posts. His forte was his rich understanding of the conceptual shortcomings of SG and his passion to bring about sensible change -- not just stir up the rhetoric and pose for the cameras.

When Pedro flipped (and he did flip) it came as quite a blow to me. Whether The Independent Movmement is a bubble to you or not, TheRadikal.com serves as the bubble's background music. Having one of the greats cross over, becomes not only disadvantageous for the movement, but I'd be a fuckin liar to sit here and pretend it didn't take a toll on myself as well.

However, Pedro remains an independent at heart. Does he regret his move? Did he put too much weight on winning? What did he think of the Moseley ticket? In the end, did Pedro really have Moseley's ear on graduate issues??? All the answers +++++ QUESTIONS OF YOUR OWN, will be answered.

But I for one think Pedro should be re-admitted into the Independent fold, to opine on matters as years ago, and help us build an even stronger GDI base at UF.

Johnson has distanced himself from Dale, Bell in recent articles. I don't have the time to investigate, but I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't interested. I look forward to reading some good comments.

Gator's In Trouble

The Orange & Blue Party is already acting like the dominant force in SG. They've consistently taken on issues of real student-relevance, issues that at times are only met with resistance from the administration. Gator is already being looked at for potential voter suppression violations, as a key ISA executive continues protecting the identity of the person(s) that ordered her to send out a questionable email favoring the ruling party -- DURING SLATING!

But Gator is still facing the backlash of the Paul Drayton Scandal -- how will they win the trust of students, not to mention their votes, when Gator's top brass dump the students for NYC and only return when the gig's are up? How will students feel in knowing that even if they did vote Gator, the person shaking their hand might not even be the person serving their interests? "Hey there...(lol)...I'm running for senate but may serve by proxy if something better comes along, I'm running with the Gator Party, would you like to vote for me?" How many people in Spring '08 that voted for Paul Drayton, really expected to get Rene Medina for 1/3 of the term?

And with a huge election year ahead of us, one that could have monumental significance for our nation...how will students react in knowing Gator appointed a ghost to Chomp The Vote for the summer of '08?

Students still remember the Tasering...Gator shielded the administration, Orange & Blue helped to coordinate the students into action.

Gator continues to ignore the student will, Orange & Blue has forced the Machine into court over Online Voting!

Gator is the party of the Greeks...what the FUCK is Sen. Courtney Stephenson selling to the Alligator? I was in Access buddy, so don't talk that egalitarian shit...BSU is every bit as much a block as the FBK-backed IFC/PC; 400 people don't randomly show up to slate! And never in the history of SG have GDI parties threatened org's with their budget for votes or have their supporters done so in kind.

I hope Orange & Blue wipes the floor with these people. I hope they vote that Jimmy Carlssen d-bag out of chambers, give him a taste of his own medicine.

I'm really angry at fate, I wish I could have been there when PAUL delivered that fiery condemnation. I think I would have been totally engulfed by passion, almost an adrenaline-like-rush. Hearing PAUL really condemn this behavior must have been reminiscent of that time Ronald Reagan addressed Berliners, stating: "tear DOWN this wall Mr. Gorbachev!"

Former Senator On Glenda Frederick

"She asked Eric [Wolf] several times if he was ready to turn in his party registration to unaffiliate with O&B both in the spring and over summer."

This seems to be outside of Glenda's role as Senate Secretary.

"Like the rest of the Gator Party, she has little respect for the
rules and procedures."

This seems speculative.

"EVERYTIME, every damn time we want to pass a law at senate, one of the first questions asked in judiciary (when the bill is first comes to judiciary) is , "Has Glenda seen this?" or "What was Glenda's opinion on this?""

This would be area where I would find Glenda's membership in Florida Blue Key to stand as a major conflict of interests and grounds for her immediate dismissal as Senate Secretary.

This may be nothing more than speculative, conjecture or it may pose a very serious question to Student Government and the Independent movement at UF.

The Honorary Tap

Florida Blue Key has worked hard to tap young leaders that will undoubtedly hold high office, everything from the the U.S. political circuit to lofty posts in the private sector. But why would FBK tap a secretary. Glenda isn't just any secretary, she's very good at what she does, and this blog will not question the virtual fact that Glenda is loved by numerous students and alums.

Still, the question stands: is Glenda playing favorites in Student Government? And if so, what remedy exists? When the top leader of the Independent community at UF publicly states that the SG Secretary is "destructive" this should be grounds for alarm across campus and certainly merits both our attention, as well as that of the UF Administration. I mean we're not talking some random nobody like Jimmy Carlssen, we're talking about the top Independent leader on campus, Sam Miorelli.

The Orange & Blue Party is really shaking up the status quo! From fighting for online voting, courageously bringing Articles of Impeachment against Student Body Treasurer Paul Drayton, to now (perhaps) taking on the all-to-often-ignored issue of Glenda Frederick and her direct role in the Student Senate.

Question to the readers from TheRadikal.com: "how exactly does Glenda's work in senate, differ from Kim Cruts work when she handled the PR for SG? Why are students expected to lead SG and balance the $13 million budget but it's [allegedly] apparent no student could match Glenda's minutes-taking ability.

I fear that the same System logic that keeps Glenda on year after year, is synonymous with the reasoning behind "intranet voting" and the legitimacy of the "Student Body Treasurers ruling by proxy."
