Bracco or Miorelli? You Decide.
I've been thinking about this for quite some time and I think it's pretty obvious that the Orange & Blue Party has two unofficial front-runners for their presidential nomination in 2009. I'd be interested which would get the Jardon endorsement, I'm also curious which would get the lion's share of the officials (those party members in Senate and/or otherwise in SG). I'm also curious which candidate would have a greater rapport with the general O&B supporter.
I think it's an interesting area for O&B'ers, as well as members of the majority to state the pro's/cons of either. I think it could be done in a classy way, but this is TheRadikal.com, so per usual [most] anything goes.

Jardon would defect to Gator again before had anything to do with either
You just really don't get it? Do you Christian? Do you honestly believe that Tommy Jardon gets to pick who the O&B Spring 2009 SBP candidate is? You are so disconnected it is pathetic. It has been said before, but apparently it didn't sink in the first time around so it warrants repeating: "Tom" hasn't called any shots in Indie Politics for over a year now.
if you think either of those two clowns will get it you are a fucking idiot
miorelli can't even win a damn election in his own party: bracco isnt even affiliated with O+B and is a known wackjob
Frank won't be here.
What don't I get? Did I say Tommy has such power? No. You assume what you like. If I want to say something, I will (my blog after all).
What I asked was: who would Tommy endorse. Whatever you have to say, whoever you may be, Tommy was last O&B presidential candidate and I, like many others, notably the Independent Florida Alligator who endorsed him, would probably take the time to hear his pick and the reasons behind it.
Even as "ex" politico & fmr. candidate, Tommy Jardon will forever be a name in the movement. So much so, that even in his temporary moment of weakness, his huge contributions to the movement dramatically tipped the scales in his favor.
Let's just say, there's a good chunk of you Adam Roberts fans on this blog, always has been. Speaking of which, I won't hold my breath in getting a reply to my Q&A.
Frank's graduating and Sam's going to be in the last year of a mechanical engineering degree, probably doing IPPD.
Christian seems to have a chronic problem with forgetting that some people actually do care about their academics.
Anon 4:58PM Either one of them could run if they wanted to
Ok. So how about this Sherlocks...who's more popular RIGHT NOW...can you guys handle that? Or do you need furhter instructions? It's like Goon-Town in here tonight, just answer the fuckin question. *Sheesh* lol
And I predict Miorelli will run, maybe he'll take another specialization or maybe he'll apply to law school. Miorelli not running would have been as bad as Tommy not running, they're leaders of the day, they have a duty to serve.
Frank I like and he's another one that could do a great deal of good for the GDI's. It shouldn't be a toss up who the GDI's run in '09 - it's that kind of mentality that allows the 70/30 defeats.
The GDI's need to choose a candidate earrrrrrly on. I mean maybe even September! Campaign for those Fall senate seats with the Party's '09 presidential candidate. Get that name out. It's never been done before and that's precisely why the GDI's should do it.
Key is this...the system can't change anything, they locked into their roles and Indies shouldn't mirror these movements. The mirroring approach renders one victory every 10-15yrs, so why keep doing it? Why not switch it up? Why not instead of calling Duque names, why not switch it up?
Why not switch it up?
O&B is aware of the negatives of both and not terribly thrilled about running either
we all know tom cockriel is going to be the Orange and Blue candidate
I have nothing against indies, but I don't see the purpose in running if you cannot win, or at least be competitive.
Same as for the Drayton impeachment; They got shut out on every count. Why go through the effort, if it will not bear any results.
With the Drayton impeachment hearings they knew going in that they were going to lose. The point of the hearings was to make the point that Gator Party does not care about the rules or the student body. I think that goal was accomplished with the fantastic press in the Alligator.
As for running either one of those goons, nothing good would come of it. Period.
We do what we think is right, regardless of the chances of success.
Well said Anon 6:27. You've just summed up Independent Thought to a line. Kudos!
Well time I chimed in. Mr. Moseley and Kevin asked me once not too long ago why support competition when you know you will likely lose...The answer is simple: because competition matters. There was a time when "greek party" members understood this but I'm not sure if that is the case anymore.
Student Government actually has the ability to represent the students and do something good on our behalf. The administration is responsive to numbers and that is what Student Government can bring to the table. Sadly, SG hasn't really been too influential at the administrative level in the past couple years but at least some people still listen; Student Government still matters. Think about this: what if only 2,000 to 3,000 students turn out to vote? That is what would happen if there was no competition. The administration will have a really tough time believing SG represents the entire student body. The administration and local governments aren't that responsive now but just think what happens if you only have one contender. Do they truly represent the students?
Now this is front page news! It isn’t a new theory either. This entire summer we have had speakers come out to Senate and state they want to hear from students. If one day the Student Body President can walk into Bernie’s office or the mayor’s office and say, "10,000 students voted for me and they believed in our stance on this", just imagine what they could accomplish?
why would cockrel run with o&b?
Very good point(s) Frank. You should all know that I put both of these great student leaders side by side to exemplify the high standard of today's independent movement at UF.
And I believe Bracco nails it on the head. The more UFSG goes in really representing the students (indirectly enhanced by larger voter turnout), the more credibility the institution will have at Tigert and City Hall.
It's also key that UFSG be used in the contexts outlined by Bracco and not exploited or enhanced to the degree of Mike Belle.
The Student Vote should be used to better Student Government. Student Government may then find itself through the democratic process and legislatively through bills, resolutions, and debate.
I believe the farthest SG should go in the civic, electoral process is Chomp The Vote.
Ideally, if more students vote in student elections and these same students are also registered to vote in local, state, & national elections from right there in Alachua County it'll make a world of difference in the long run.
Orange and Blue has already started negotiating with cockriel and hes been receptive. Hes sick of playing second fiddle in the IFC and wants to stick it to them
Not to mention that Tom's frat just went down the tubes. He has nothing to lose.
