i'm a bit creeped out that you're still donning access gear, but otherwise i like the video. you come off looking pretty rational, and for the most part, your points make sense. i like moseley a lot, but i don't like the people who back him. seems you can empathize.
I'm still trying to figure out what this undefined concept of "selling out" entails. Since I'm gaining no personal benefit from thinking Mose is the best candidate for the job (the entirety of my involvement in this campaign) and really have no interest in pursuing any further involvement in SG (having declined an invitation to slate), my conscience is pretty clear.
I love Bruce to death, and I think he would do a decent job as SBP, but his entire campaign seems to be based on the premise of opposition merely for the sake of opposition. Pants is already falling into the trap of campaigning solely with the "vote for us - we're not the system!" mentality, which has definitely worked so well in the past.
Being a GDI isn't about whining and being a thorn in the side of anyone with power. Nor is it about running doomed campaigns semester after semester simply in the name of tradition. The true spirit of the independents is to simply think for oneself - taking all the information available and deriving a logical decision from it. True independents toss aside partisan labels and political opportunism to look out for the best interests of the student body. The best interests of the student body undoubtedly reside in a Moseley presidency, and any TRUE independent should support his candidacy.
Also, since you seem to have a chronic propensity to drop names, you should know:
- Ryan Nelson and Nikki Grant have quit SG for good. - Nina DeJong is graduating (of course, for that matter, so is Bruce). - Gavin Baker, self-admittedly, has no interest in running for executive office. In fact, he has never harbored ambitions for a spot on a ticket. - Justin Bell is not going to be on a Pants Party ticket.
Apparently Gavin and Pedro have alos both "quit." Question is where do the loyalties lie? That's what's key, not only for face but for the morale of a small party charged with defeating a mainstream machine four or five times its size.
Selling out entails promising positions. Selling out entails the end of democracy and a multiple party system. Virgil clearly does not know what a 'true indie' is.
You all seem to think the "indies" were promised something for our support of Ryan Moseley, and we were CLEARLY not. We simply chose who we think the best candidate was, gave him our support in the way of volunteering and time.
If and when Moseley is elected he will make the best decision about positions in front of him based on his experiences with people. This is exactly what an SBP is supposed to do. Who has been "promised" a position in his campaign... I'd really like to know because if you say you have been you're lying.
Hogwash. He doesn't "need" Indie support to win and I'm sure he didn't seek you out. I'd bet the farm that a deal was made and when some key positions go to the sellouts, I'll say I told ya so.
I predict TJ will be in FBK before graduatiing and that there will be a 'special' explanation for that too ("I'm not really a sellout, I'm just undercover...")
I've praised Jardon for two years, truly behind him, but the second you turn on the Indie community whether ur Tommy Jardon or John Boyles, TR will prepare for battle.
If being a "true indie" means absolutely refusing to consider anyone else's perspective and creating ridiculous myths and conspiracy theories, as seems to be implication of this thread, then I'm quite happy to rescind the title.
Move over Campus Preachers, Christian Duque might strike back in Turlington, with a loudspeaker and 3 yr old Access shirt that half of current UF student body are not familiar with.
Anon 1:32, yeah totally, Mose will pick based on experience and I'm sure that nobody has been promised anything. The machine doesn't work like that at all. Just like, you know, a year ago when Boyles said nothing had been promised, and then every single appointment came down as predicted (all of them Swamp supporters).
Either you've never been in SG or you're lying. Either way, quit while you're ahead and be quiet.
And whats wrong with party supporters getting the positions? Secretary of Defense is not Democrat, no is crying, even though I am sure there are far more better qualified candidates out there.
While positions might come from the supporters that complete makes sense. You have to look at who was loyal to you and is largely the system of the winner take all mentality of most levels of government in the United States.
The difference here nobody has been bought with a promise of a specific position within the administration, if you can't comprehend the difference than you have bigger problems then never having been in SG.
The only currency SG have is promising positions. It can't give tax breaks to special groups, or help them with a large contract, or anything of that sort. So they have to deal the positions. Sorry, if I am going to make 100 people in my org vote for you, go out and talk about you and flyer for you, just cheering for you in O&B won't cut it. Mr. Qualified should pay his due first.
I am very grateful for your question, but I have addressed this several times over. Let me stress that being Indie in my definition has nothing to do with being either Greek or even in FBK. It's a mindset and way of doing things. It's a different style of campaighing, you'd have to go back months, even different years of this blog to get a real essence for it.

Josh and Ben are not Tommy. Tommy has not sold out. Josh and Ben, Kim and Ryan Day (the two couples) left the reservation on their own.
tommy said in today's alligator that he supports ryan. yep.

I'm interviewing Nina on Sunday. Thanks for the heads-up on her graduating...that's cutting edge information right there... :)
p.s.

Funny. I think you meant to say bullhorn and that would be Peter ;o)

Yeah...I've never been in SG.
Peter Grushkin moved on, its Christian time!

I still talk to pete often. He reads the blog. :)

you're wrong, but you have shitty grammar. proof read. no offense.

If you think SG can't help with contracts, look out for Tutoring Zone after Mose wins.
just curious, but makes an indy an indy... this is something that you have never really defined TR...
Is it not joining the greek campaign? well Jamal did... is it not being in FBK? jamal was Jennifer Puckett was evntually as well
Is it not promising positions? Andrew Hoffman went into the interview selection process knowing he had his slate
tell me TR what is an indie...
